New Zealand Wool Testing Authority (NZWTA) has been in operation for over 50 years assisting the industry with wool grading through objective and accurate testing. Owned by the Australian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA), NZWTA is the largest test house in New Zealand for the sampling, testing, and certification of raw wools.
Well-known within the wool sector, NZWTA Wool Testing has built a reputation on quality, reliability, and proficiency. Harnessing New Zealand’s rich heritage and legacy within the wool sector, NZWTA has proudly helped to grow, evolve, and innovate over the years, alongside the wool industry, to lead with new technology, specialist skills and technical efficiency.
NZWTA also operates a comprehensive textile and material testing business to complement its raw wool testing operation.
At NZWTA Wool Testing, our mission is to provide leadership to the wool industry through measurement, innovation, technology, and service. As a team, we have exceptionally high standards in all that we do; our technical expertise, the quality of our service, our testing, results and data, and our support for the wool sector as a whole.
NZWTA Wool Testing regularly tests sheep wool, alpaca fleece and other animal fibre from across the world. We have regularly and successfully worked with MPI (New Zealand customs) and international partners to effectively import animal fibre and safely test these in our Napier lab.

As a consolidated group, AWTA comprises of 3 operating divisions in Australia (AWTA Raw Wool, AWTA Product Testing and Agrifood Technology), its wholly owned subsidiary NZWTA and its joint venture, JinAo Testing Company.
NZWTA enjoy the close relationship and access to the best testing equipment in the world through its parent company AWTA, who play a major role in providing a bridge between the research and the commercial application of testing technology, by facilitating further research and development. AWTA are the leading organisation in the research and development of wool testing equipment and largest manufacturer and supplier of wool testing equipment in the world.
